Course Completion Card FAQs.

Q: When will I receive my course completion card?

A: We understand the importance of a course participant having to have their course completion card as soon as posible; therefore all course participants who prepay for their course, shall receive their course completion card at the completion of the course, providing they have passed and completed all course requirements to receive a course completion card. Students that show up to a course unannounced, will receive their course completion card within 7 business days of the course completion date.

Q:How long are the AHA course completion cards valid for?

A: All of the American Heart Association's course completion cards are valid for 2 years through the end of the month in which the card was issued. The course completion date and course expiration date are located at the bottom, on the front of the card. 

Q: Does Critical Actions Safety Center keep a copy of all course completion cards?

A: No. Critical Actions Safety Center , train over a thousand student each year making it difficult for us to keep a copy of each student's course completion card; therefore we advise each student to make a copy of their course completion card and keep it in a safe place.

Q: My course completion card has been stolen or misplaced, will Critical Actions Safety Center provide me with a duplicate card?

A: Yes. You will be charged a fee for a duplicate card. If your name was misspelled, due to error on our part, you will not be charge the duplicate card fee. In the event you need a duplicate card, you must contact us as soon as possible, and provide us with the date you took your course with us. If you did not take your course with CASC, you will not be able to get a duplicate card from CASC.

 Course Registration FAQs

Q: I reserved my course on the American Heart Association's website, Do I need to register with your website as well?

A: Yes, the reservation you made on the AHA website is simply a notification to us, so we will be aware that you are interested in taking your course with CASC. Though you may have made a reservation on the AHA website, we only guarantee enrollment to those students that pre-pay with us. All of our courses are on a first come first serve basis.

Q: When I made my reservation on the American Heart Association's website, my confirmation email said my instructor would be contacting me about payments and other information, will my instructor be contacting me?

A: The information that is found on the American Heart Association's website is controled by the AHA. We make every attempt to contact students that make thier reservation on the AHA website, though the website states your instructor will be contacting you in regards to payments, our policies is that an instructor is not allowed to collect any funds or personal information from students. This policy was put in place to protect the student's financial information and it allows us to maintain your confidentiality.

Q: How do I pay for my course registration or reservation?

A: You may pay for your course online via our secure website, or by calling (904)725-1130, We accept Visa, Master Card, Debit Cards with a Visa or Master Card logo, Cashiers Checks and Money Orders. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS or ATM Cards.

Q: Do I have to pre-pay for my course registration?

A: Yes, We require studets to pre-pay for all course registrations. For live courses students are eligble for a refund, providing the student cancel the course in the required time. Please see our Company Policies for additional information.

Q: Can I pay for my course on the day that I am scheduled to take my course?

A: No, please see above.

American Heart Association Core Instructor Course (FAQs)

 General Questions

Q: What is the Core Instructor Course?

A: The AHA Core Instructor Course is an engaging, multi-media tool designed to provide a foundation for teaching and facilitating regardless of an instructor candidate¿s area of specialization.

Q: Why did the AHA create the Core Instructor Course?

A: The Core Instructor Course was developed at the request of ECC instructors and volunteers to provide consistent and uniform instructor training. The course eliminates material that is repetitive across disciplines and provides a more consistent message across disciplines, while ultimately, creating more effective ECC instructors.

Q: What are the options for course delivery?

A: Critical Actions Safety Center Prefer the online option for course delivery of the Core Instructor Course. The online course is through AHA's Professional Education Center (formerly known as the LMS or Learning Management System). Our reasonning for choosing the online option is because: 

  •  This is the AHA preferred method for taking the course
  • Only delivery method that offers continuing education credits
  • Upon completion, instructor candidate can receive 8 hours of CE credit
  • Connect via americanheart.org/coreinstructorcourse (a voucher code, which is included in the Core Instructor Course Workbook, will be needed to access the online course)

Core Instructor Course Materials

Q: What is included in the Core Instructor Course Product Line?

A: The following products are included in the Core Instructor Course product line:

  •  Core Instructor Course Workbook (product #80-1050)

Includes:

  • Workbook (used with all versions of course) 
  • CD-ROM version of the course 
  • Online voucher code for accessing online version of course

Q: What materials are needed for this course?

A: Each student taking the Core Instructor Course must have a Core Instructor Course Workbook, which includes the online voucher and the Core Instructor Course CD-ROM.

Training Questions

Q: Who has to take the Core Instructor Course (and own a Core Instructor Course Workbook)?

A: The following groups must complete the Core Instructor Course: 

  •  All National, Regional, or Training Center Faculty
  • All new instructors 
  • Instructors who are adding a discipline (ex. BLS Instructor adding an ACLS Instructor status 
  • Instructors who are identified by their Training Center as having documented deficiencies in teaching, adult learning, and evaluation

Q: Is each instructor candidate required to have the Core Instructor Course Workbook?

A: Yes. Each instructor candidate is required to have the Core Instructor Course Workbook. The workbook contains both the CD-ROM and the online access code, so it is the only way they will have access to the SDL course. 

 Q: Can I receive a refund?

A: Each purchase is final, and no refunds are available. 

 Q: How long does it take to complete the course?

A: If you are completing the course online or through the CD-ROM, the course is a self-directed learning course, so times may vary. You can start and stop at your convenience. 

Q: Do I have to finish the entire course at one time?

A: No. You can stop at any time during a module or a test and then return to where you left off.

 Q: Do I need to perform all online work on the same computer?

A: If you are using the web-based version, you can access the program and pick up where you left off on any computer that has Internet access. You will need your username and password established at your first logon. However, if you are using the CD-ROM, all work must be completed on the same computer.

Q: How many hours do I have to complete the program?

A: There is no limit to the number of hours a student may take to complete the course.

Q: After I finish the online portion of the course, will I receive an AHA Instructor card?

A: No. Completion of this course does not guarantee that an instructor candidate will become an American Heart Association instructor. In order to become an American Heart Association instructor, candidates must also align with an American Heart Association Training Center, such as Critical Actions Safety Center and complete a discipline-specific instructor course (in BLS, Heartsaver, ACLS, and/or PALS) and be monitored by an American Heart Association Instructor while teaching an American Heart Association course.

Continuing Education Questions

Q: Can I receive continuing education credit? 

A: If you complete the Core Instructor Course online, you are eligible to receive up to 8 hours of continuing education credit through AHA Professional Education.

Q: Is there an additional cost for the continuing education credit?

A: No, there is no additional cost for the continuing education piece.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Online Part 1

Q: What is it?

A: The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Online Part 1 Course offers a flexible training option for busy healthcare professionals. The online cognitive portion (Part 1) allows students to complete learning at their own pace and convenience. To help students gain confidence in performing skills, Part 1 is combined with a hands-on skills session (Part 2) where students have the opportunity for one-on-one practice time with an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor. A skills test (Part 3) with an AHA BLS Instructor ensures skills proficiency. Upon successful completion of all three parts students receive their healthcare provider course completion card. This course is an ideal option for healthcare providers seeking an alternative to classroom training.

Q: Who is the intended audience?

A: This course is designed specifically for healthcare providers seeking first-time or renewal BLS certification.

Q: What is the course format?

A: The online portion of the course contains mandatory checkpoints that must be successfully completed before a student is allowed to access the final test. There are exercises available for review, plus additional optional video clips that can be accessed for skills demonstrations. The confident student may opt to bypass the reviews and go immediately to the required checkpoint scenario. The student who answers a question incorrectly is redirected to the beginning of that checkpoint, given the option for review, and can then re-attempt the checkpoint. Each checkpoint must be completed with 100 percent accuracy. If a student is unsure of an answer to a question in the checkpoint, he can select the "Brief Review" option. Upon completion of the review, the student returns to the checkpoint. After completing all the checkpoints, the student is directed to the online test. After successful completion of the online portion (Part 1), the student prints a certificate to take to the skills practice (Part 2) and testing session (Part 3) with an AHA Instructor, located at Critical ACtions Safety Center. Should a student not be able to successfully complete either version of the test, the student should print the course homepage. This page will document which parts of the program have been completed. The student should take this page to their scheduled skills session. The instructor providing the skills check will offer additional remediation as needed, in accordance with the current Program Administration Manual.

Q: Is a skills test required?

A: Yes. To earn an AHA BLS Healthcare Provider card, from Critical Actions Safety Center, the student must successfully demonstrate the required skills to a current AHA BLS Instructor located at Critical Actions Safety Center. Critical Actions Safety Center DO NOT ISSUE STUDENTS CARDS THAT TAKE THIER PRACTICE AND TESTING WITH A OUTSIDE TRAINING CENTERS

Q: How Should a Student Schedule a Skills Session?

A: If an employer provides the access code (key), the Training Center coordinator or employer will provide information about skill practice and testing sessions. If an access key is purchased online, at Critical Actions Safety Center the skills practice and testing session shall be completed with CASC. If a student purchased thier online session from an outside source, the student may contact CASC to schedule thier skills practice and testing. CASC charge for the skills practice and testing session  for issuing the card.

Q: What comprises the skills test?

A: The skills test, which must be completed by an AHA BLS Instructor located at CASC, includes those skills required in a standard BLS for Healthcare Providers course:

  •  Adult/Child 1-Rescuer CPR
  •  Adult 2-Rescuer CPR and AED
  •  Infant 1- and 2-Rescuer CPR

Q: After the completion of the online course, how long does a student have to complete the skills practice and testing session?

A: Students are allowed up to 60 days after the completion of the online part of the course to complete the skills session.

Q: How long does it take to complete?

A: Students generally require 1 to 2 hours to complete the online portion of the course.

Q: Can a student log in and out of the course?

A: A student has up to one year to complete the course. During this time, a student can log in and out as many times as they choose. To log out, just click the "Click here to logout" link located at the top of the page after login. When the student is ready to continue training, they can return to www.onlineAHA.org and login with their registered e-mail and password.

Q: Can course material be accessed after the online portion is completed?

A: After completion, students have 12 months from the day of enrollment to refer to the course material for review and knowledge updates.

Q: What should I do if my checkpoints won't check off?

A: This could be due to browser settings. Students can get troubleshooting tips and recommended settings on the Browser Check page. This link is also at the bottom of the Course Home Page.

Q: How do I get a receipt for my purchase?

A: You can print a receipt for your order on the "Order History" page. The "Order History" link is located on the left-hand sidebar on your Course Home Page.

Q: Is there a demo or tutor?

A: Yes, a sample of the BLS for Healthcare Providers Online Part 1 Course is available for review at www.onlineAHA.org.

Q: Does the program require special computer or support software?

A: Most Web browsers will have no problem using our site. The videos require the free QuickTime plug-in. You can click on Browser Check to make sure your browser is compatible.

Q: What is the process for taking this course?

A: Here are the steps for this course:

  • Click on the E-Learning/Online/Skills Test Link, purchase the BLS online Course parts 1, 2 and 3 and choose a day and time that's convienent for you to complete the skills practice and testing session
  •  If you purchase in bulk, you will be able to view your keys by clicking on "Order History" on the side bar, once you are logged on to the American Heart Association's website. Keys are 12-digit alphanumeric combinations that students can enter to gain access to the course. You will receive additional instructions and your key code within 24 - 48 hours of purchase.

Q: What are the Heartsaver online programs?

A: The American Heart Association¿s Heartsaver online programs, Heartsaver First Aid Online Part 1, Heartsaver CPR AED Online Part 1 and Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online Part 1, provide a convenient alternative to classroom-based Heartsaver training. These Web-based, self-directed programs teach participants critical skills and knowledge needed to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) takes over. Depending on the program, participants learn how to recognize, respond to and treat a variety of first aid emergencies, and perform CPR and use an AED in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest. The Heartsaver online programs can be completed at work, home or wherever Internet access is available. They can be used for initial or renewal training, and students have access to all information in each program for 24 months following activation of their course key. To help students gain proficiency in performing skills, for full course completion, Part 1 is combined with a hands-on skills practice and testing session (parts 2 and 3) with an AHA Instructor or Heartsaver Skills Evaluator¿ from Critical ACtions Safety Center.

Q: Specifically, what content is taught in the Heartsaver online programs?

Q: Approximately how long do the Heartsaver online programs take to complete?

A: The following are the approximate completion times for each online part 1 program. Time to complete skills sessions vary.

  • Heartsaver CPR AED Online Part 1: approximately 30 minutes
  • Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online Part 1: approximately 1 ½ - 2 hours

Q: Does successful completion of a Heartsaver online program result in receipt of an AHA course completion card? If so, what card?

A: Upon successful completion of all three parts (online program, plus skills practice and testing session), students will receive a Heartsaver course completion card. Each card is valid for two years. The table below indicates the card received for each program:

Q: Is there a written test that must be completed for each Heartsaver online part 1 program?

A: No, the Heartsaver online programs do not include a written test. The programs do include review questions at the end of each section, but these questions are not test questions. While the 2006 version of these programs included review/test questions, the 2011 programs do not.The AHA does not mandate completion of a written test for Heartsaver courses; however, an optional written test has been developed for Instructors to administer to students whose employers require completion of a written test. If your company require you to have the optional written exam, please let us know, the Heartsaver optional written test will be issued during the in-person skills practice and testing session (Parts 2 and 3).

Q: Do the Heartsaver online programs offer continuing education (CE/CME)?

A: No, CE/CME credits are not offered for these online programs.

Q: After completion of the online program, how long does a student have to complete the skills session?

Q: Do the Heartsaver online programs require special computer or support software?

A: OnlineAHA.org recommends using the following setting to maximize your eLearning experience. In addition, student and administrator hardware should be the recommended requirements.
